Skull symbolism is the attachment of symbolic meaning to the human skull. The most common symbolic use of the skull is as a representation of death and mortality, but such a reading varies with changing cultural contexts.

Humans can often recognize the buried fragments of an only partially revealed cranium even when other bones may look like shards of stone. The human brain has a specific region for recognizing faces [1], and is so attuned to finding them that it can see faces in a few dots and lines or punctuation marks; the human brain cannot separate the image of the human skull from the familiar human face. Because of this, both the death of, and the now past life of the skull are symbolized.

Moreover, a human skull with its large eye sockets displays a degree of neoteny, which humans often find visually appealing—yet a skull is also obviously dead. As such, human skulls often have a greater visual appeal than the other bones of the human skeleton, and can fascinate even as they repel.

In Mexico, the skull is a representation of impermanence, transition, and freedom. It signifies the liberation of worldly burdens. The annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations of Mexico in which the skull is a prominent feature, is an extension of this liberation theme. This is a time when veil separating the dead from the living is at its thinnest. A time in which life and death meet, and loved ones are reunited.

The skull represents the faint shadows our physical remnant leaves behind upon our death. Beyond those gaping dark sockets is the life beyond what our eyes have seen.

Mexican tradition honors the cycle of life and death - their symbols such as the skull are testimonies to their profound insight into such complex concepts.

The symbolic meaning of the snake and skull in the Mexican mythological realms indicate:
**Duality between man’s identification with conflict between life and death
**The impermanence (illusion) associated with this conflict
**Man’s ability to recognize this message of impermanence
**Man’s ability to utilize the power available to him to over come this conflict

2012 AND THE MYSTERY OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

From time immemorial, humanity has been locked into a course of chaos and self-destruction. If human beings continue to follow this negative and evil course, however, the final and inevitable act in the drama of history will be the end of all civilization, humanity’s extinction, and an Earth that can no longer sustain life, human or otherwise. But it need not turn out like this.
In the year 2012, a different course, a far better path, a chance for survival and salvation, will open wide for humanity. For in 2012 it will come to pass that a grand cosmic event, a divine alignment, will be triggered in which human beings will discover, or rediscover, the fundamental force underlying the Earth and the entire Universe, a force as basic as gravity itself. That fundamental force is LOVE. As soon as this revelation enters the minds, and the hearts, of human beings in that pivotal year, people will abandon evil and come to love and revere one another, and Mother Earth. We are accelerating into a marvelous future of radical and wonderful change.
My attention was drawn to the year 2012 recently when I happened to notice that my driver’s license expires in 2012. This made me think of the incredible opportunity that presented itself to me during my travels. I actually had the opportunity to peer into the famous Anna Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull. An intricately detailed female human skull, sculpted out of quartz crystal, the Crystal Skull is believed to have been created by the Mayans more than 5,000 years ago.
Much controversy surrounds the Crystal Skull’s origin. Who actually created it, and when ⎯ and why ⎯ is still a mystery. However, there can be no denying that it is a transmitter, a harmonic prismatic magnifier of molecular atomic symmetry, a terrestrial phenomenon, that is activated by radiant light, producing mystical powers. It is my belief ⎯ a theory, not a confirmed fact ⎯ that it is within the Crystal Skull that the Mayans hid the secret to 2012. I believe the Crystal Skull to be transmitter, a telepathic portal that enhances the mind’s remote-viewing abilities and presents a map of the future, a vision of the great cosmic event to occur in our solar system in 2012.
What will happen in 2012 is this: The Earth’s axis will align with the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, the Mother’s Womb of Creation, in order that we can become attuned with cosmic time. According to calculations based on the Mayan Calendar, which is an accurate timekeeper of the galactic ages, in the year 2012 we will enter Zero Time. At a pinnacle moment of time in the evolution of the Solar System’s electromagnetic fields, a new calibration, or recalibration, of those fields will occur. In short, the Cosmic Clock will be reset and time will start over.
As the Cosmic Clock reverses and time starts over, the natural order of wisdom, harmony, peace, love, and enlightened spirituality will return to the Earth. This crossroads event will be manifested in the sky by the Southern Cross, the symbol of the Sacred Tree, the Tree of Life, representing the family of the Children of the Stars. The Jaguar Tribe shall awaken.
As 2012 approaches, we must all align ourselves with the Greatest Wisdom ⎯ love, respect, tolerance, sharing, gratitude, and forgiveness ⎯ for this is what 2012 is all about.
The knowledge of the Greatest Wisdom is encoded in our DNA, the reoccurring pattern of energy that creates all life and shapes it into diverse living art forms. The Universe is a magnificent creation within, so follow your heart and light the way. Shine-om, brothers and sisters.
The time has come for us to rise to the highest vibration of our genetic potential here on Earth. We are the dream of the Creator. We are the carriers of the Seed of Knowledge, which dwells deep within the seat of our souls, passed down through all the generations from the very beginning of time. This Seed of Knowledge is the DNA matrix locked within each of us. All of you, my brothers and sisters, carry this matrix, which is the key to a treasure chest containing a precious jewel ⎯ the creation of all life.
If you are into numerology, then 2012 translates into three simple equations that produce an unmistakable result:
(1) 20 + 12 = 32
(2) 3 + 2 = 5
(3) 2 + 0 + 1 + 2 = 5
These equations are remarkable, in that they all point to the number 5, which represents the Fifth Element, the Alchemy of Creation.
Being in tune with nature brings one to some profound realizations. All of the periodic elemental forces exist in the forms of air, water, fire, and earth, and they embody the chemistry into which all atomic matter is organized. Moreover, the smallest particle is a source of vast potential energy that can exist either alone or in combination with all of the matter creating and composing the entire physical universe. Time itself is energy as well.
Through the evolution of Creation, we are becoming ever more conscious of and sensitive to time and matter. As a result, our telepathic abilities are increasing. One manifestation of this is an increased consciousness or awareness of Synchronicity ⎯ the intrinsic telepathic sense of being in the right place at the right time, relying on our inner navigational gyroscopes. Another is trusting our gut feelings. Still another is being a keeper of heart-truth. Telepathy is our inner cell phone of telepathic communication that links us up with like-minded, and like-hearted, people. We are one family, a family of psychic voyagers, becoming increasingly in tune with the tectonic vibrations of the Universe. As such, we can each become an intuitive receptive crystal-clear being ⎯ a living Crystal Skull.
Visualize, if you can, the spatial-temporal integration of the Crystal Skull into your human cranial hemisphere, where the Star Tetrahedron, the sacred geometry of your creation, is seeded. Image 2012 as a metaphor ⎯ as the last grain of sand dropping from the upper to the lower glass vessel of an hourglass, as the last atom-grain containing all Creation, passing at zero point through a singularity, through the eye of a needle, through the portal leading to insightful intuition and clairvoyance. The end becomes the beginning ⎯ the beginning of a super-intelligent consciousness, the dawning of the age of your reincarnated and recreated genius.
Here we are, on this speck of dust we call Mother Earth, each of us manifested in physical form, each of us a temple embodying the spark of life, each of us an emissary of the universal consciousness of pure love, each of us the dream of the Creator. All that is asked of us is to live in Peace, because this Earth is the only place in the Universe where we can survive. Never has this been truer than now, as 2012 approaches.
My lifelong Journey for Peace has taken me to many places, and into many circles and gatherings, across the United States and around the world. Regardless of where my travels have taken me, I have always treated every place I have been, every person I have met, with respect. Within the temple of my being I have always carried, in every heartbeat and footstep, the light of love, my soul chanting, “Shine-om Peace and Love! Anima Pia!”
I am a mystic, and I follow a mystical way of life. Mysticism is the direct and intuitive communion with spirit. It is atomic union. It is God consciousness. It is a keen insight into the natural cycles of evolution and the power of elemental forces from which one receives all one needs from the Cosmos.
To all fellow mystics I say, as you travel along your way, be in great appreciation of the magical synchronicity of intuitional communion, spiritually ablaze with the awe of divine knowledge, as you practice the art of living in wisdom. Be one with all in spirit, in eternal bliss, brave in heart and loving life. For, no matter what you do or how you do it, you are always moving towards the source of light, towards home.
May you be a mystic poet of peace who, as you walk anywhere on Earth, can place your hand on your heart and say, “This is my home.”
All of us, whether mystics or not, compose a collective consciousness that is in agreement with what we believe supports our intentions and our
karma (actions), which create our reality.
The year 2012 is all about synchronization. And it is how we will respond to the unprecedented changes that will come in 2012 that will be the final piece to the puzzle of the great mystery, the secret of 2012, that the Mayans hid within the Crystal Skull.
